“El Ejido” Park & Craft Market
“El Ejido” Park, Quito´s popular central park, is a delightfully peaceful place to amble, walk or sit in the sun (or shade.) There are children´s play facilities, snacks, volleyball matches, and, of course, the “Arch of Triumph”.
The Park is all that remains of the Common grazing grounds that once spread 10 kilometres to the North. El Ejido divides the old city and the modern one. There are 1470 species of native plants in the park including: cholán, alder, chamburo, the palms and the guabos.
On the weekends, the park hosts a large outdoor craft market where you´ll find a fascinating variety of Andean handicrafts. There are paintings, dolls, textiles, carvings, clothes, hats, and souvenirs celebrating several indigenous cultures of the province.
